Welcome to Tabard Women. This season we will again be competing in National Challenge South East West 2 after last year coming 2nd in this league.
Women’s Rugby is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK. With England Women becoming World Cup Champions in 2014, this trend is set to continue and we are keen to both encourage new players and bring experienced players back to the game.
The 2014/15 season is Tabard Women’s 10th Season. In 2007 we entered a friendly league and won with an unbeaten record. Following this in 2008 we entered the national leagues and in our second season at this level we won the league as champions and were promoted. We achieved a second promotion the following year, since then the team has struggled and in the 2013/14 season we combined forces with Hitchin RFC to ensure women were still able to play Rugby in the County. This was a great success for both clubs and we all enjoyed some good Rugby. We will continue as Hitchin and Tabard this season with the aim next season to become two clubs again.
The team has progressed tremendously throughout the past ten seasons and last year we again provided players for the Herts County Women’s squad, Tabard players have gone on to play for Premiership and National sides and we actively support this if you have the potential.
We always welcome new players, whether they are experienced or have never picked up a rugby ball before. We are keen to hear from anyone who wants to give Rugby a go!.
We are a friendly side who socialise regularly and are involved in all areas of the club, so as well as the playing side there is a lot more for new players to become involved in. We also have an annual Tour where we play and Socialise together. Tabard is a friendly family orientated club where all players and non-playing members support and encourage all teams from minis to junior and senior men and women.
Training and Coaching
Training is on Tuesday nights from 7.30 to 9pm and players of all abilities are welcome.
Matches take place on a Sunday Afternoon.
The team is coached by a Phil Pleace, Steve Hancock and other specialist coaches as required, all are RFU qualified and ensure we have Safe, Fun sessions. These include all aspects of Rugby including Fitness, Handling and Tackling. All new players will be given the necessary coaching to enable them to participate fully in the game.
We have a team physiotherapist available for training and matches.
So why not come along on a Tuesday and give it a go?
