Tabard men’s 1st XV ended a successful season on
Saturday afternoon defeating London Nigerians RFC away by 31 points to 21. With
nothing to play for, Tabard having already secured promotion with four games
left to play and Nigerians already relegated, the game started brightly enough
with Tabard camped in opposition territory for the entire first half, albeit it
took twenty minutes to crack a strong London Nigerian defence. The points
eventually came with a try from scrum half, Andy Murphy, which he followed up 4
minutes later with another, both converted by stand in fly half Tom Taylor
Davies. A further try from Second row, Darren Kidd after 35 minutes saw Tabard
go in to the break leading by a respectable 19 points to nil.
London
Nigerians came out for the second half determined to make a game of it and
caught a Tabard side, already thinking about the after match celebrations, on
the back foot and within eight minutes had scored two converted trys. With the
score now 19 points to 15 Tabard decided to bring their half time break to an
end and responded on 52 minutes with a second unconverted try from Darren Kidd.
The remainder of the match was an evenly fought contest with both teams scoring
converted trys, Michael Thomas on 60 minutes, converted by Taylor Davies and
Nigerians on 73 also converted.
Final score 21-31
